Dawn Chorus consisted of an array of 35 cymbals, each of which has an attached DC motor and solar
panel. The motors were driven in real-time by sunlight and respond to
changes in the weather, in particular, cloud cover. Attached to the
motors were lengths of flex, which beat out a rhythm on the cymbals as and when the
motors are powered by solar energy. In response to the varying feedback
from the environment, the work autonomously produced different
behaviours: sometimes a shimmering percussive noise whose intensity constantly
changed, and periods of complete silence.
